General changes:
- Changed DOCTYPE to the new HTML5 DOCTYPE
- Removed the script type from all scripts within the
<head>tag (no longer required in HTML5) - Changed the way jQuery is loaded (it’s now loaded from the official jQuery site) and updated to the latest version of jQuery (1.7.1)
- Removed the rollover function for the form submit element from the functions.js file
Form changes:
- Removed the JS placeholder method from all input elements and replaced it with the HTML5 placeholder attribute (this was causing a bug that didn’t allow the email fields to validate properly)
- Replaced the image-powered submit buttons with CSS3 buttons with round corners and gradients that allow you to modify the text inside them. These buttons will revert to a solid color, square corners buttons in CSS3 non-compliant browsers
- Decreased the width of the email field in the footer by 10px
- Removed the outlines from the input fields (the blue glow that some browsers add around an active form element)
- Added a label for the footer form and one for the subscription form in the index_with_video.html

First off, great landing page. I also love the simple video of how to use the html page with wordpress, really helped.

to the page because I want the header and navigation to look like the rest of the pages. My problem is that I want to cutoff the very top of the landing page, the part that has the “Conversion” logo and the social icons and the telephone number. How could I do that?

Is it possible to add additional fields to the trial form without affecting the page layout?
ReplyDeleteFor example, lets say I would like to add another field called company name. Can that be done on my end without breaking the style and layout?
You can add an extra field, but you would have to make some manual changes to the CSS of the right hand side button background since that has a fixed height. Other than that you won’t break the layout.

In the CSS file you need to find the rule for .submitButtonDarkBG . On that, you need to change the height and adjust the padding to keep the button centred.

In regards to the “index_trial_with_form”, I didn’t see any PHP files to send the form data back to us.
Can we use any simple PHP script to collect the form data and then send the emails back to us?
Also if we converted this to a WP template as per your video, where would we upload the PHP script to collect the form fields and send emails back to us with the form data?
Also I will try to modify .submitButtonDarkB within the CSS file as you had suggested. If we encounter any issues, would you mind if I ask them here to get assistance on how to fix the form?

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately there are no PHP files for handling the forms. I’ve included some instructions for adding MailChimp or CampaignMonitor to the forms, that’s how you can easily handle the form data.
However, a simple script would also work, but you’d have to write that yourself. If you do so and plan on using WP, any location for the script would do, as long as you properly link to it from your form.

<form id=”trialForm” action=”FORM LOCATION ON THE SERVER” method=”post”>
and it should work well and we would do the same for WP.

Yep, that’s correct. Beware for WordPress tho—the path to the .php file might differ, depending on the location. If you’re using an absolute location for it (ex: mydomain.com/files/script.php) then you’ll be fine. Otherwise, you need to do something like:

Again, that depends on the location of the file. The first part will refer to the WordPress theme folder.

It depends on the scripts you’re using. If you implemented MailChimp or CampaignMonitor these have validation built in. If not, you can either use a JavaScript approach (http://jqueryvalidation.org/) or a PHP approach. The PHP approach is safer and there are lots of solutions for that—either google “php form validation” or buy an existing script (http://codecanyon.net/item/simple-php-contact-form/46679?ref=NetPremium&ref=NetPremium&clickthrough_id=171621086&redirect_back=true)

How do you make the whole page, or template smaller so that it can all fit nicely in a 600px as oppose to 960 (which is currently full page)?

ReplyDeleteThe template is designed for 960, not smaller. You can make the necessary adjustments via CSS, but doing so will break the layout.
ReplyDeleteThe CSS conflicts with your website’s CSS because it contains styles that apply globally. This theme is meant to be hosted on its own, not in conjunction with another website.
If you want to avoid conflicts, you can install it in a separate folder and then simply link to it from your existing website.

Say you have the main website on www.domain.com. You need to upload the landing page files to www.domain.com/landing/ (call this “landing folder” anyway you want).
ReplyDeleteThen, from the main site you simply create a link to www.domain.com/landing (from your navigation menu for example).
That way, the landing page has its own separate folder and won’t interfere with the main website since it’s no longer part of it.
Makes sense?
I made a folder called landing-page and added all the CSS files there.
ReplyDeleteI then copy the html contents (with the updated directory links) and paste it into my page via the Opencart CMS.
Majority works except some few css conflicts.
I am doing this so that it looks embedded in and joined to the site.
Well, that’s what I’m saying. if you wanna embed it there will be CSS conflicts—no way around that.
ReplyDeleteYou can poke around in the CSS files and see which ones conflict or use Firebug and inspect your page to see where styles are overwritten.
Ok however even though i pull out specific bits from the template eg. the buy button or call to action below, i still get a conflict issue. Isn’t the CSS for those sections different ?

Well, you need to change this href attribute for every link. So, instead of: href=”#”, you’ll need href=”www.facebook.com/username” for example.
